Make your skin glow, without makeup!!

Growing up in Orange County, I spent a lot of time on the beach and at the pool. That meant spending hours in the sun every day. It’s funny how Mr. Sun works. He turns my hair extremely light, and my skin very dark. But even when I wear sunscreen, by the end of summer, my face is always left full of freckles. As a kid, it was kind of cute. But as an adult, I am less than thrilled to see my face covered in freckles. Now I try so hard to find the perfect concealer and foundation to cover them up.

The sun not only causes freckles, but it also causes Melasma. According to American Academy of Dermatology, “Melasma (muh-LAZ-muh) is a common skin problem. It causes brown to gray-brown patches, usually on the face. Most people get it on their cheeks, bridge of their nose, forehead, chin, and above their upper lip. It also can appear on other parts of the body that get lots of sun, such as the forearms and neck.”

Eeeekk! You would think we would try to avoid this at all costs!

There has got to be a better way, than to just mask our imperfections, right? I mean Alicia Keys has even stopped wearing make-up COMPLETELY and she looks AMAZING!!

Yes! So, first and foremost, we should ALWAYS wear sunscreen! Every..Single..Day!! But if you would like some extra help obtaining that glow, there is something called a Skin Brightener. They work by evening your skin tone, brightening up a dull complexion, and improving the look of sun and acne spots.

Both sun spots  (melasma) and freckles are caused by exposure to the sun, which speeds up the production of melanin. Skin Brighteners essentially act by bleaching the skin. One of the most effective ingredients found in a lightening cream is called hydroquinone. Hydroquinone works by actually inhibiting melanin production. Other milder ingredients like Vitamin B derivatives, or Vitamin C are also found in lightening serums and work as antioxidants too.

In order to get the most out of your skin brightener, sun protection is key! You must be consistent in applying sunscreen to your face. Try to use an SPF 30 or greater, and use it every single day. Also, the brighteners work best when the skin is clean and exfoliated so it can penetrate the skin. It is better to prevent a skin issue than to try to fix it.

I know every woman wants that glowy, radiant,    J-Lo looking skin. And usually we can create a beautiful glow with highlighters and bronzers, but imagine waking up and having skin so radiant, you feel like a Goddess! This is basically what a skin brightener does. It creates the fresh look from within! Almost sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it?

Skin Brighteners can be found in the beauty section of any major department store. Almost every brand makes one, and they can range between $20-$100.

It is by far, the best thing to use if you have melasma or unwanted dark spots! After using this regularly, you won’t be too embarrassed to go to the grocery store without wearing make-up anymore. Now THAT’S something to smile about!
