We all have that one friend that is always wearing BLACK. Yes, black looks good on everyone, but sometimes we can have too much of a good thing. Like, gosh Susan, are you headed to another funeral today? Stocking up on monochromatic clothes is easy and takes very little thought. But by adding a simple colorful statement piece, it can make all the difference!
My Dad went to Amsterdam last January. In his photos, it was extremely gloomy and everyone wore dull colors. Nothing but gray, brown, and black! But him, being the ray of sunshine that he is, wore a brightly colored rain jacket. I’m sure it was obvious that he was a tourist, but he looked so full of life!
In a world of constant negativity, there is an easy way to brighten our style, and even our mood! Did you know that the color red is known to increase your heart rate, making you more attractive to the people around you? It’s true! Every color we see, has an effect on our brain, whether we realize it or not.
Feeling blue? Blue reduces blood pressure, and helps us to feel relaxed. Blue with caramel brown is my favorite. Try wearing beautiful blue dress, paired with a chunky brown belt or brown pair of heels.
Colorful shoes! Colorful shoes will make any black outfit POP! The choice is yours. Red, pink, blue, even yellow.
Colorful bag or purse. Choose a color that goes with the clothes you already have. Green or burgundy tend to match well with our staple colors.
A beautiful scarf is an easy way to brighten up a plain dress or shirt. And it doesn’t have to be freezing cold outside to rock a cute scarf. Try pairing a pastel colored scarf with a basic white tee and jeans.
Imagine a black pair of jeans and a black sweater. BORING! Now, picture the same jeans, but with a purple sweater. Notice the change in feelings? Purple is a good color for self-expression.
And perhaps Susan isn’t going to a funeral after all. But adding a splash of color, it would make all the difference in the world!
Fun Fact: Pantone Color Institute’s Color of the year 2018, is Ultra Violet! According to Pantone.com, “Historically, there has been a mystical or spiritual quality attached to Ultra Violet. The color is often associated with mindfulness practices, which offer a higher ground to those seeking refuge from today’s over-stimulated world. The use of purple-toned lighting in meditation spaces and other gathering places energizes the communities that gather there and inspire connection.”
